Taxi and motorcycle crash closes Fratton Road in Portsmouth

Emergency services, including the Air Ambulance, were called to a serious road traffic collision involving a taxi and a motorcycle on Fratton Road, Portsmouth, this evening.

The collision occurred between Lucknow Street and Somers Road North, with police closing the busy road in both directions while emergency services responded.

Images from the scene show a heavily damaged motorcycle lying in the middle of the carriageway surrounded by debris, with the taxi stopped nearby. Police established a cordon around the collision scene as officers began their investigation, leading to significant disruption for motorists and local bus services.

The Air Ambulance attended the incident, however the motorcyclist was ultimately transported to hospital by land ambulance. The condition of the rider is currently unknown.

Police officers remained at the scene directing traffic and preserving the area while enquiries into the circumstances of the collision continued. A number of members of the public gathered behind the cordon as emergency services worked.

Motorists were advised to avoid Fratton Road between Lucknow Street and Somers Road North and seek alternative routes while the road remained closed.
