Officers have arrested two people following the theft of a vehicle and a business burglary during a four-hour period in Southampton and Lymington
It comes after a vehicle had been reported as being stolen from Inkerman Road in Southampton between 9pm on Monday 23 May and 6am the following morning – Tuesday 24 May.
The vehicle was then allegedly seen to be used in a burglary at New Forest Ice Cream on Ampress Lane in Lymington just before 11pm yesterday evening (25 May).
An alarm was activated at the rear of the premises after a section of fencing had been damaged – where three containers were forced open and untidy search conducted.
At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that anything has been stolen. A few hours later, officers were out on routine patrol when they spotted three people riding bicycles up Clay Hill on the A337 towards Lyndhurst – matching the description seen on local CCTV near to the scene of the burglary.
Officers sought to engage with them but they had fled on foot, leaving the bicycles behind at the scene.
These were later recovered and seized for evidential purposes.
An area search was conducted with officers locating a man and a teenage boy a short distance from the scene.
A 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, both from Southampton, were arrested on suspicion of burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and theft of a pedal cycle.
They remain in custody at this time.
