Appeal for witnesses following burglary at an address in Fareham

Police are appealing for information following a burglary at an address in Fareham on Friday (11 February)

Between 9.45am and 11.45am entry was gained to an address on Highlands Road and a safe was taken from one of the bedrooms, believed to have been transported away from the property in a white Bag for Life.

The occupant of the address, a man in his 80s, was not at home at the time and no-one was injured.

The safe contained a number of items of sentimental value to the occupant, including:

  • An 18th Century book on Latin with a black hard cover and plastic cover surrounding it, with one shilling inside.
  • Two green books.
  • Four packs of unopened playing cards, one of which may be military.
  • A white plastic bag containing a white pearl and an authentication certificate, thought to be worth around £30.
  • Four or five 50 pence pieces with bunnies on them wrapped inside bubble wrap.
  • A knife box from the 1800s, roughly ten inches in length, with old fashioned red writing on the top.
  • A grey money box and a leather pouch with several old coins inside.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the Highlands Road area, particularly near the junction with Kennedy Avenue, at the time and may have seen anyone carrying a heavy item in a white Bag for Life.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who walks or jogs around the area and may have come across any of the items matching the descriptions above, which may have been discarded from the safe.
