More Than 40 Firefighters Tackle Large Field Fire in Havant

More than 40 firefighters were called to a large field fire in Havant this afternoon.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted shortly after 2pm to reports of hay bales on fire in Southleigh Road.

Crews from Havant, Cosham, Southsea and Waterlooville attended, supported by specialist vehicles from Fareham, Portchester, Bordon and SHQ.

Firefighters used jets, hose reels and beaters to surround and stop the blaze, which affected an area around 300 metres by 200 metres.

The fire has now been extinguished, but crews remain at the scene damping down.

The fire service has reminded people there is an increased wildfire risk during hot and dry weather, urging the public not to take barbecues into the countryside, to extinguish cigarettes properly and not to start campfires.
