Driver Arrested After Fail-to-Stop Pursuit Leads to Discovery of Suspected Class A Drugs in Basingstoke
A driver has been arrested after police discovered a large quantity of suspected Class A drugs following a fail-to-stop incident in Basingstoke on Sunday evening.
An officer from the Roads Policing Unit was on patrol when suspicious activity involving a Vauxhall Astra was spotted on Worting Road at around 9pm on 14 June.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly failed to comply and drove away at speed. The pursuit lasted approximately two minutes before the vehicle came to a stop in Townsend Close.
The driver then attempted to flee on foot but was detained following a short chase. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located a large amount of suspected Class A drugs.
A 32-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of:
Possession with intent to supply a Class A controlled drug
Dangerous driving
Failing to stop for a police officer
Driving with a specified controlled drug above the legal limit
Following further enquiries and the discovery of additional items inside the vehicle, a 47-year-old woman from Basingstoke was also arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug.
Both remain in police custody while investigations continue.
