Firefighters tackle large heathland blaze in Fleet
Firefighters are continuing to battle a significant heathland fire near Norris Hill Road, with crews remaining at the scene into the afternoon.
Emergency services were first called at around 11:30am to reports of a large fire on open land near the canal in Fleet.
More than 40 firefighters from across Hampshire — including crews from Rushmoor, Portchester, Fleet, Basingstoke, Odiham and Alton — are in attendance, supported by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.
The blaze has affected approximately three hectares of grass, gorse and surrounding heathland.
Firefighters are using multiple water jets, hose reels and beaters to bring the fire under control and prevent further spread. Work is ongoing to dampen down the affected area.
Norris Hill Road remains closed to allow access for emergency service vehicles, and police have put road closures in place in the surrounding area.
Members of the public are urged to avoid Fleet and nearby routes while operations continue.
Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
