Man, 40, Charged After Stolen Car Pursuit From Farnborough Ends With Arrest in Romsey

A 40-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences after police pursued an allegedly stolen vehicle from the M3 to Romsey before arresting the driver in a garden shed.

Officers were responding to reports that a car had been stolen in Farnborough. The vehicle was identified travelling southbound on the M3 during the early hours of Monday 22 June before being tracked to the M27.

Police followed the vehicle towards Romsey, where stop sticks were deployed. The car came to a stop on Middlebridge Street, but the driver fled on foot.

Following a search of the area, officers located the suspect hiding in a nearby garden shed, where he was arrested.

Luke Major, 40, of Manor Road, Aldershot, has since been charged with dangerous driving, taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving without third-party insurance, and driving whilst disqualified.

Major has also been charged in connection with a separate incident in Aldershot on 16 May, during which a man in his 30s was allegedly assaulted with a knife.

In relation to that incident, he has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), possession of a knife blade or sharply pointed article in a public place, threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place, handling stolen goods, driving without insurance, and driving whilst disqualified.

Major was due to appear before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 23 June.
