Man Arrested After Police Dog Finds Suspected Class A Drugs in Farnborough

A man has been arrested after a police dog discovered suspected Class A drugs during a proactive police stop in Farnborough in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Officers on patrol noticed suspicious activity involving a silver Mercedes on Farnborough Road at around 2am on Tuesday 16 June. The vehicle was stopped in Queen Victoria Court, where further enquiries were carried out.

Due to concerns at the scene, the Dog Unit was called in to assist. Police dog Major indicated an interest in the driver before locating a sock hidden inside the vehicle containing 29 bags of suspected Class A drugs.

The driver was also subjected to a roadside drug test, which returned a positive result for cocaine.

A 29-year-old man, of no fixed abode, was arrested on suspicion of:

• Possession with intent to supply a Class A controlled drug

• Acquiring, using or possessing criminal property

• Driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the legal limit

• Using a motor vehicle without third-party insurance

• Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence

He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

The suspected drugs and other items were seized as part of the investigation. Police say proactive patrols and targeted operations continue across Hampshire and the surrounding area to disrupt drug-related crime and keep communities safe.
