Murder Investigation Launched After Woman Found Dead in Fratton

A murder investigation is underway in Portsmouth after a woman in her 70s was found dead inside a property in Fratton.

Police were called to Cyprus Road shortly before 10am on Monday, 14 September, following concerns for the welfare of someone at an address.Officers attended the property, where the woman was sadly pronounced dead.

A 48-year-old Portsmouth man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody while detectives continue their enquiries.

A large police presence has remained in Cyprus Road throughout the day, with forensic officers seen working at the property and a cordon established around the scene.

The road was also closed while officers carried out investigative work.Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed the woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Police say the death is currently being treated as suspicious while detectives work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding what happened.

Neighbourhood officers are also expected to remain in the area, and police have encouraged anyone with concerns or information to speak with officers at the scene.
