Portsmouth Man Jailed for 14 Years After Raping Teenage Girl and Woman at Knifepoint

A Portsmouth man has been jailed for 14 years after admitting multiple rape offences involving a teenage girl and a woman in her twenties.

Dameon Etherington, 20, of Greetham Street, was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday following an investigation by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.

The court heard that in late 2023, shortly before his 18th birthday, Etherington raped a 14-year-old girl he had met online. He raped the same victim again in January 2024, with both offences taking place in Portsmouth.

In a separate incident in late 2025, Etherington restrained and raped a woman in her twenties at knifepoint in Havant.

After initially denying the allegations, Etherington changed his plea on the first day of trial and admitted one count of rape and two counts of rape of a girl aged between 13 and 15.

He was jailed for 14 years, with an additional four years on extended licence. The court also ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and placed him under a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Detective Sergeant Hollie Shelton of the Major Crime Support team said the sentence was “very welcome” and a deserved punishment for the crimes he committed.

She said Etherington had deliberately targeted vulnerable girls and women and that his actions had caused profound and lasting harm. She also praised the courage of both victims for reporting the attacks and supporting the investigation.

Police said anyone with concerns about rape or sexual assault can contact Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary on 101, via its website, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Support is available for survivors of sexual abuse whether or not they choose to report the crime.
