Two Men Charged Following Alleged Rape of Woman in Southsea

Two men have been charged with rape following an alleged attack on an 18-year-old woman in Southsea.

Police launched an investigation after receiving a report that the woman had been raped by two men she did not know during the early hours of Wednesday 24 June.

The alleged incident is reported to have taken place between 1am and 3am at an address on Manners Road.

Following extensive enquiries, detectives have charged two men in connection with the investigation.

Tony Goldsmith, 45, of Gilbert Street, Enfield, has been charged with three counts of rape.

Bobby Watson, 46, of Highbridge Street, Waltham Abbey, Essex, has also been charged with three counts of rape.

Both men have been remanded into custody and are due to appear before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday 29 June.

Criminal proceedings are now active. All defendants are entitled to a fair trial, and it is important to remember that a charge is not a conviction.
